Plaza Independencia is Montevideo’s main square, the limit between the old town and downtown. You can read info about it here. I took all these pictures on April 8. That day was the final of the Vuelta Ciclista de Uruguay (the Tour de France of Uruguay). It was Sunday at noon and the square was almost empty. All of a sudden, the first bikers appeared. The man in yellow won the competition. Two minutes later, a bunch of journalists and media photographers arrived at the place.
The Palacio Salvo has a sister building in Buenos Aires, the Palacio Barolo, also designed by Mario Palanti. The tower dominates the skyline of downtown Montevideo, and stands at the gateway to Avenida 18 de Julio, the city's principal street.

Esta es la principal plaza de Montevideo, el límite entre la ciudad vieja y el microcentro. Pueden leer información al respecto aquí. Tomé estas fotos el 8 de abril. Ese día terminaba la Vuelta Ciclista de Uruguay. Era un domingo al mediodía y la plaza estaba vacía. De repente, los primeros ciclistas aparecieron. El hombre de amarillo ganó la carrera. Dos minutos más tarde, llegaron corriendo periodistas y fotógrafos de varios medios.
El Palacio Salvo tiene un edificio gemelo en Buenos Aires, el Palacio Barolo, construido también por Mario Palanti. La torre domina el microcentro de Montevideo y mira hacia la Avenida 18 de Julio, la calle principal de la ciudad.
